Does every business need blog?

The answer to the question, “Does every business need blog” must vary from marketer to marketer but surprisingly it’s not!

Before I write this blog, I have started poll on LinkedIn where I asked the same question. This result was totally bias. 100% people said yes!!!

That means every marketer (among my connection) thinks blogging is important for every business in order to increase online presence.

Do I agree with them? Probably yes, but only with the reasoning part. I partially disagree that EVRY BUSINESS need blog to sale their product or service.

Let’s make this question more explanatory, does every business regardless of its size (small, mid or large) need blog to grow their online presence eventually sales?

The above is the big question for which I’ll present my thoughts, experience and studies.

Let’s start with the basics.
What is blog?
Technically, A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries.

In other word, a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style to cover a particular information around one niche or business.

The blog gives wide information about one’s business, product or service to the prospect which help their buying process clear and comparatively easy.
Blogging stats of 2021
Let’s closely inspect some of the important statistics of blogging:
  • There are more than 500 million blogs out of 1.7 billion websites.
  • Over 409 million people view more than 20 billion pages each month.
  • Blogging is the 3rd most common content strategy after video and eBooks.
  • 92% of content marketers use blog posts as part of their marketing strategy.
  • More than half of content marketers say blog content is top inbound marketing priority.
  • 38% of bloggers say one of their biggest challenges is creating quality content consistently.
  • Companies with blogs produces an average of 67% more leads monthly than companies that don’t blog.
  • Businesses that publish 16 or more post per month receive 3.5 times more traffic than those who publish fewer than four post.
  • 97% blogger use social media to promote their blog.
  • 60% of consumers say blog post are valuable in early stage of buying process.
  • The most popular type of content among bloggers are “how-to” articles (77%), followed by listicles (57%), and news and trends (47%).
These stats itself speak about importance of having a blog. Does this mean all the marketers into my connection were right about the thought that every business does need a blog to grow online?

No, I am not concluding anything here, and you too should not.

Before you or I come to any result, hear me out. If the search volume is too low around your business, then why to waste time on collecting ideas, writing a blog which nobody gonna look at?

I believe blog is important for any business who wants a lead from search engine as blogging is the biggest factor to out rank on search engine.

But when you are into an industries like fashion where visual representation is more important, it will be a good idea to focus completely on videos and social media than spending time for blogging.

Because experts say blog needs to be uploaded daily in order to rank high on search engine. And bloggers who spend 5 to 6 hours of writing blog get the better result.

That means writing 6 to 7 hours daily for a blog or article which nobody will going to read is hilarious. Instead, add those hours on social media and see the result.

[Also, podcasting is taking serious hit today and of course it should be because you can’t read blog while driving but can attentively listen to podcast at the same time.]

Now we can conclude that it depends on business. Not every business need blogging to grow online or increase sales. But I must say very few businesses in today’s date don’t need blog.
How to find whether your business need a blog or not?
To find out whether your business need blog or not, consider the following point:
  • If your product or service need a visual representation more, than don’t waste time on find the topic and writing the blog. Use social media and YouTube.
  • It is also depending whether you are dealing with B2B or B2C sector.
  • If your social media is strong enough to attract your client then you surely don’t need it.
  • It depends on what you’re aiming for. If you want to dominate your niche than you cannot ignore google which require SEO of your site and is there any other better factor than blog to get ranked on google?
Business such as photography, fashion designers, makeup artist or saloons don’t require blogs to grow some extent.

But to pop out when someone query for “saloon near me” needs a blog.

That’s why I am not in a favor of not having a blog at all. Just understand when you need it.
