Guidelines to use meme in your social media marketing
Do you want to produce the content that urges your audience to engage (i.e., react, comment or share), don’t you?

Obviously, we all want this as a creator or business owner.
Does it possible? Certainly yes, only if you win to generate the sense of belongingness among your audience. Now you are wondering, how high-quality content should I need to produce such that audience will fascinate about engaging with your content.

But do not worry, I got your back. The piece of content that is more sharable among user of social media and also which is now in trend among marketers is MEME.

Have a look on tweet of @LifeMathMoney account which was endorse by flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal.

Back to the tweet, this is enough to show what is and will be the standard of meme in marketing world.

Memes are more than just a trend. They aren’t just for bored people who want to get rid of their boredom. Memes can be integrated part of marketing strategy.

Creating a meme is so easy but can be challenging at the same time. Easy because templates are readily available, you just have to edit one or two sentence that make sense with your business, to your audience.
Challenging because it must make sense. Memes with crude humour is likely to confuse your audience and go down poorly with them.

In the rest of the blog, I will guide you to how to create meme and the points to be remembered while creating it.

Let’s start with understanding meme.
What is meme?
Wikipedia defines meme as “A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning representing a particular phenomenon or theme.”

Unfortunately, understanding the definition of meme from Wikipedia is not funny! So, I make it easier for you to understand it.
Meme, a piece of content having a viral image or video from nowhere or anywhere whose caption are edited according to viewer’s sense.
What is meme marketing?
Meme marketing is one of the most effective parts of social media marketing strategy. With the increase in the rate of social media user’s interest of sharing and tagging friends on, meme, the most top, mid or small size brand has included the meme marketing into their social media strategy.

It is about grabbing the viral meme template and edit its caption that must resonate your business or product or make at least lightweight sense to your audience not to all the users.

Why to include meme marketing in your social media marketing strategy?
There are 4 main reason, you should use meme into your social media marketing.

  1. It boosts your engagement rate.
  2. Memes, according to Neil Patel, are all about increasing engagement and building community through effective communication that everyone in your circle can understand.
Memes are apparently the most shareable content available on social media today. As it’s a single piece of content filled with humours, witty and incredibly funny caption which make it sensible to large audience, eventually helps to increase your engagement rate.

  3. Easier to create and save a lot of time.
  4. Creating meme doesn’t cost you anything, not even time. There are many meme generators from where you can download the meme template and can add a witty caption (that should not cross the relevancy of your message.)
Sometimes you even don’t have to search for the templates, you just roam around on social media and will find a trending meme template.
You just have to work harder with the caption to avoid annoying your audience with the cruel meme.

  5. Show your creativity and humours to your audience.
  6. You must know the saying; women are attracted to the men with humour. But that’s partially true. Men and women both get attracted to the humour. Why people with the humour get all attention? Because funny people are smart. And smarts get it all.
I remember the tweet I read back then from one of the famous founders (I follow on twitter), ‘who can make fun of their work only knows their work completely’.
Which clearly reflects that creating memes will surely attract the attention of your audience, makes you look humorous and smart as well as shows your authority and creativity to your audience.

  7. Relates with the current event which makes your content fresh.
  8. You have seen so many images, storylines, plots from recent movies and shows got too much attentions as it is used by memers (a person who creates meme).
As they are from latest event, and if you use it in your social media content you can not only reach the wide audience and make your content fresh but also can show your audience that you’re active and closely pays attention to what’s going on, on social media.
4 Tips to remember while creating meme for your business
As I have stated it above, Meme with a crude humor is likely to confuse your audience and go down poorly with them. Hence, create it while considering the following points.

  1. Don’t leave your niche behind.
  2. Don’t ever create meme that is out of your niche, it will result in losing followers as they may think you are no longer in the niche, they were interested in.
And it also confuses your profile visitors too as they came from particular post and got different content on profile.
  1. Keep up with what’s trending.
  2. Edited content with trends gets more reach and engagement cause algorithm pushes the trending content in front of audience that is likely to engage with it.
Also, when you pay close attention to trends on social media you will eventually save a lot of time of finding templates.
  1. Try to create original memes.
  2. Apart from using templets and viral image or video, do try to create your own meme from behind the scene or customer experience etc.
  1. Stay away from the topic that may harm your brand position.
  2. There will be so many topics that you should not touch. You’re making meme for your business awareness. You are not a meme account, so don’t try to cover all. Leave which you think may affect your personality.
There are many big brands in the past who fall for wrong meme and ended up getting troll or drastically drop the reputation.
